A work day in the life of an M3 support worker…
Our supported lodgings project workers are busy supporting young people in placement and at home, all year round. But what do they actually do and how does it make a difference to a young person’s time on M3?
We follow Mathew, one of our supported lodgings workers through a normal day…
On coming into the office, Mat picks up a referral that had come in at the end of the previous day for a 17 year old requiring accommodation. Booking an assessment with that young person and their temporary social worker, Mat starts the process of looking for accommodation and finding a matching placement with one of our Householder team. The young person is brought in by their social worker for assessment where Mat gets to the bottom of what their support needs are and where they want to live. Accepted for a placement, but able to stay at a friends Mum’s for just one more day, Mat books a move-in for them for the following day with the Householder identified to provide the placement.
Then it’s off to work with John, one of our young people on shopping for food and budgeting. John is getting ready to move on to his own accommodation, but has identified that he wants help with managing his food budget when he leaves our accommodation. A quick trip to Asda later, and John has a better idea about eating on a budget and how to make a low income stretch a little further.
Finally, it’s a quick job to write up case notes on our electronic database so we can record the work done and measure progress against the outcomes we are funded to achieve.
